Our Coaching Team

We have an excellent team of friendly, dedicated, National Governing Body (NGB) qualified Judo Coaches willing to share their 'Years & Years' of judo experience with YOU.  Our aim is to provide You and your fellow club members with an enjoyable and safe introduction to the Olympic Sport of Judo and enable you to progress through your judo training, practice and grades at 'Your' pace.  We still teach and practice the skills, techniques and values of traditional Kodokan Judo and we Welcome Newcomers to come and join us soon.

WYJC is affiliated to the British Judo Association and is a BJA 'A' Rated Judo Club.

The BJA is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of Judo in the UK, as recognised by Sport England UK.  Our BJA Club Membership Number is 4468.

Our 'Senior Coaching Team' are all qualified Level Three BJA Senior Coaches (revalidated December 2016 ready for the New Year ahead) with full DBS & Safeguarding & Protecting Children Certification.  All of our Coaches are qualified and experienced First Aiders (revalidated December 2016), with many years judo coaching and teaching experience.

And . . .

WYJC have adopted the 'Best Practices & Standards' Policies from Sport England, UK Sport, Sports Coach UK, and British Judo Association regarding Safety in Sport, Equity In Sport, Child Protection (including Protection of Vulnerable Adults), Sports First Aid and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) Policy.

WYJC was founded in 1973 and our mission statement & club motto has always been 'Judo For All'.

We have been providing excellent Judo training & coaching opportunities for over Forty Years now and we look forward to the next forty years of Judo service to you and our local Community.

So!  We hope to see You soon (when you come along to 'Have a Go at Judo').

WYJC was awarded the prestigious 'Sport England Club Mark Award' in 2008 and we have ensured that the high quality standards needed to achieve this award have been maintained and developed further through continued personal & professional development of all of our Judo Coaches.  Knight, Kavanagh & Page acting as Auditors for Sport England carried out a 'Club Mark' External Verification on their last visit to WYJC and sent us an excellent review letter (just as in previous years; i.e. this was our forth EV visit since 2008).  You can read their comments by clicking onto the following Link (Click this Link to Read their Letter).  Pictured below: Senior Coach Keith Jones standing next to 'Three Times Olympian' (and who was at that time) BJA Chairman Densign White (centre) presenting the Club Mark Certificate to the WYJC Head Coach Debbie Cox (pictured receiving the Certificate), standing in front of some of Junior & Senior Members.

This is when we received the Sport England Club Mark Achievement Award in September 2008, presented to us by Densign White, Chairman BJA
